WDTV Live Plus not deinterlacing of mp4 files. Why?

I recently ripped some DVDs I have of UK tv shows to mpeg 2 files and uploaded them to my home server to play on my WDTV Live Plus. They play great, but I wasnt happy with the file size so I decided to convert to mp4 (H.264) using Handbrake. Unfortunatly, if I don't decomb (a method of removing interlace artifacts) my mp4s play with visable interlacing.

    My questions are:
I assume that my WDTV Live Plus does not deinterlace mp4 files on the fly, but does deinterlace mpeg2 files. Is this correct?

Is there any likelyhood that WDTV will be able to deinterlace mp4 in the future?

    Thanks for help in advance
