Hello
I have a WDTV (Standard Western Digital Firmware, latest version). Live attached to it I have a 2TB MyBook. I have always generated a video file and equivalent thumbnail with the same name. Example: myvideo.mkv & myvideo.jpg This has always displayed perfectly. I have just purchased a new WD 3TB MyBook Live (Network attached storage) device and on moving videos over to the device I find that the .jpg and .mkv are not matched together or displayed correctly. Example: If I browse to Media Server it basically shows me the video files with a picture of a Video Camera where my .jpg file should be. If I browse to the Network Shares for that device not only does it show me the video file with the correct image (Great) but also displays the .JPG image at the same time so I end up with what appears to be duplicate video covers when in fact one is the .jpg and the other is the .mkv with the .jpg displayed as its cover. Hope that makes sense. Am I missing something here or can I no longer display a video thumbnail image for the the video files? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks yogiman! |

pretty much the way it works, sheets and images for videos don't work well via media servers if my memory serves me well, and going through network shares there are duplicate images, that's why so many people install the custom firmware and mount shares, they show up as local drives and work so much better.
oh and FYI, "latest firmware" means nothing without the actual revision #, doesn't really matter in this case but for future reference, any issues, please post it as stated on the 'about' screen. |

OK Thanks for the reply, don't fancy putting on different firmware though!
Thats pretty lame though, means I've wasted an awful long time generating thumbs! Any how thanks again! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

People have been complaining about the duplicate thumbs issue for years now, but WD doesn't give a damn. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/angry.gif)
Can you try this easy workaround and confirm if it works? |

Hi
Thank you for the response. Yes I can confirm. Setup: WDTV Live browsing to WD MyBook Live 3TB using method Video Network Share The thumbs show up as the video thumbs. Are not visible as just pictures. WONDERFUL :-) I can confirm that I copied two 1 folder with two videos and 3 images, image 1 was the folder image also made hidden. Images 2 & 3 were for the 2 video files, I also made sure that I copied them to the location and made them hidden before attempting to read the location with the WDLive. However here is something I find interesting. The WD MyBook Live also has Twonky Vision running on it. Streaming media to DNLA devices around the house. If I browse to it as a media server and go to all videos, some of the folder.jpg images show up as you would expect but others don't. The interesting thing is that the folder.jpg in each folder has exactly the same dimentions 120x180x72dpi so the question is why does one show up and not the other. "Don't be confused here. This is a separate but similar issue to the hidden files issue, I just thought it interesting enough to mention". Thanks for your help with the .filename.jpg issue, now if I can only solve the other puzzle that would be good too! :-) Regards and thanks! Yogiman! |
