I'm a former owner of a wd live box, which iv'e had for a few years now. Its hard wired to my router and also connected to the router is a Netgear Stora with all my movies on (predominantly 1 pass dvd rips). The live box plays all content instantly unless the Stora is sleeping.
Ive just bought the latest live box and set it up last night. It failed a few times to connect to bt home hub 3, and then when it did it was shockingly bad, it found the stora, logged on and took 3 mins to finally stream a 30min comedy dvd rip. So, ive attached a BT Comtrend Powerline ethernet female kit and bumped it up to 200Mbps, its a lot better but still takes up to 10 seconds plus to stream something. Is this purely because im not fully properly hardwired like my existing live box? Or is this something the new live box does before streaming video from networks? I have got my stora and computers talking via 1Gbit, and i see this new live is 1Gbit so would it improve this huge delay in watching my content if I hardwire it to my Gigabit switch? Thanks! |
