Hi there, I've got several DVD's made in iMovie (Mac OSX). I've burned them with iDVD to several DVD's. Now I made .iso files from those DVD's. Some of those files play without any problems, en some won't. How come? My firmware is 1.02.07.
Thanks people |

Hi, I've checked the files but didn't saw any strange things. I've made a screendump of the extracted .iso files. On the right you see to VIDEO_TS folders that did not play on my WDTV. The left one does. Both have a DVD menu in it. They all play on all normal DVD players, but don't on my WDTV.
Should the new beta version of the firmware upgrade solve the problem? Or could it be something else? Please help.

that is strange, the one thing that came to mind was the one that wont play has fewer vob's in it, are they close to the same size? shouldn't be an issue since we are able to play 20GB+ files on the wdtv..
perhaps it doesn't like the larger file sizes in an iso.. just shooting in the dark here.. sorry I couldn't be more help. |

The ISOs that the unit fails to play work flawlessly when written to disk. Although episodic ISOs seem more prone to failure, I've seen successes and failures in either type. WD doesn't seem too interested in helping. |

Meh. ISO support is a bit flaky as far as I am concerned. Not really a fix, but why not simply create a single lossless MKV from the DVD and watch that instead? MakemKV on Windows does the trick for me. Or you can always rip the VOBs and watch them instead, optionally joining multiple VOBs with VOBMerge (Windows util again).

I've been fighting this "some ISO files" don't play issue since I got my WDTV last month.
My experience has been ALL ISO files less than 30 minutes or so never play on the WDTV. The same files converted to MKV play just fine. The WDTV doesn't seem to like ISO files that only contain a single VOB. However, I have yet to have ANY problem with ISO files longer in duration with WDTV firmware 1.02.07. I use Shrinkit to reauthor so my resulting ISO files contain only the main movie or 1 episode per file. |

Any reason why you haven't tried playing those ISOs with the latest firmware?

Any reason why you haven't tried playing those ISOs with the latest firmware? From what I read here USB Hub support doesn't work right with later firmware - that's more important to me since I can work-around the ISO issue by converting to MKV. Other than that I'm completely happy with firmware 1.02.07. Don't see any reason to upgrade. |

Hub support doesn't just not work right, AFAIK it's been disabled for some reason. So yeah, as I said above, MKVs or even plain VOBs are the way to go.
