Number of downloads: 5The Pirate Bay has been shut down (they call it an electrical fail), it was a matter of time before they lost the fight. Soon the rest of the torrent sites will fall as well, some might grow for the meantime but then slowly will be shut down. As some of you might read through this site and know we talk about usenet and the advantages of joining vs the torrent scene. Nows the time to sign up and get started learning the ins and outs of the usenet. We have a couple of great choice for you to sign up on here, Newshosting or UnsNetServer. Newshosting offers 60 connections and are fastly growing to 400 days retention which is well ahead of the others for the price. I have been a Newshosting customer for years and have had no problems with their service what so ever. Newshosting® Get Fast, Secure Usenet Access from Newshosting. Starting at only $10! Newshosting Annual Account Special: NHXL for $7.90/month! Fast, Secure Usenet - Get Fast, Secure Usenet Access. Spooling to 400 Days Retention. If you need any help with understanding anything to do with the usenet just ask, we will get back to asap. Cheers! |

usenet; faster, more reliable, I have yet to download a mislabeled file, torrents are famous for mislabeled files, total waste of time. usenet maxes my bandwidth EVERY time I download something, some torrents take weeks to get.
I will gladly pay for usenet access for what ya get, well worth it. |

Always had this "ethical" question regarding downloading...
As it is legally allowed to record (via VCR/DVD or any other personal recording device) a TV show for my own personal viewing, is it illegal to download that same TV show via the internet for those same personal viewing reasons? Please note that I'm referring ONLY to downloading (NNTP/UseNet) as a unidirectional data stream, and not sharing (torrent/emule/etc/etc) - which is considered distribution. |

I think you might hear more of... its still illegal because the networks still own it. The networks make money off commercial sales while downloaded tv shows contain none so that might be a legal issue with them. Anyhow who cares, I grab all my tv shows via the net and really enjoy the commercial free aspect of it all.
Cheers! |

I have a pvr and it doesn't matter if I watch shows on that and FF the commercials or d'l it and watch it commercial free, I don't watch the ads at all.
I am slowly getting away from watching tv due to the large number of commercial ads, yup I hate them that much. |

The thing I hate is this: I purchased songs from iTunes, windows media and even Walmart in the near past. I backed the files up, responsibly, and then my computer crashed. iTunes simply lost the song for whatever reason and when I re-installed on a new hard drive, the other two wouldn't allow me to open the files I bought. There is no way to back up the licenses in the new Windows Media Player. They tell you to contact the selling manufacturer, who tells you to basically go pound sand. So, I torrented the two songs I already bought. I have gotten smarter and now rip the songs after I buy them, to an open format to avoid this. I have no problem buying music or videos, but DAMMIT when I buy them, they NEED to be MINE. DRM is MAKING people pirate. Totally honest truth. I actually considered just downloading ALL my files for free simply because of this problem. When I have songs from iTunes I can't make a MP3 disc for my car because it's "protected". wtf.
I don't blame anyone for downloading files when companies do this to us, the consumers who pay their salary. I'm not a pirate and don't think people should, but I understand why they do. The digital age needs to be open, not locked down so rich POS's can make even more money raping people. It's too bad the PB is screwed. It doesn't bode well for other internet sources that are trying to keep the flow of information open and free of DRM. |

If the networks allowed people to download TV shows for .99 an episode or maybe even 1.99$ for HD quality, more people would do it. Shoot, go further and give SD versions, with ads, for free. then charge like the above for ad free versions, none of which should be locked with license crap. People are always going to pirate, but this would get the majority to do it right, I believe. It would push people in the right direction and really open up people to streaming or downloading, which is going to happen sooner or later for all media.

Storm,
Networks do allow the purchasing of some of their more popular programs on an episode-by-episode basis. It's called iTunes. (Atleast as available here in the U.S.) :: typically in the 1.99-2.99/episode for SD & HD, respectively. In all reality, thank goodness for Hulu and Fancast for those last minute catch-up sessions :: Its a limited viewing time (typically 3-4 weeks after the episode aired), but better than losing my morning coffee & bagel money. As far as giving it away w/ ads? - That *is* how Hulu/Fancast operate for streaming; but definitely no downloading. enjoy! |
