Multichannel Audio Issues, FLAC, DTS, DTS-WAV, etc Options

Greetings,

Picked up a WDTV as a potential replacement for a modded xbox running XBMC - looks like a great product. A couple things are holding me back however.

1) I have 5.1 multichannel *.dts files (a.k.a. raw DTS) which the WDTV doesn't properly send upstream on the optical SPDIF cable for my DTS capable reciever to decode. The device doesn't even see these .dts files. mplayer and XBMC handle this properly.

2) I have 5.1 multichannel *.wav files containing DTS stream (a.k.a. WAV encapsulated DTS) which the WDTV doesn't properly send upstream on the optical SPDIF cable for my DTS capable reciever to decode. All I get is white noise. mplayer and XBMC handle this properly.

3) I have 5.1 multichannel *.flac files which the WDTV gracfully informs me it does not support. Can the WDTV transcode the 6 PCM streams into a single AC3 or DTS stream as the XBMC on the gen-1 xbox does?

4) I have 5.1 multichannel *.flac files which the WDTV should send over HDMI as 6 separate PCM streams - is this supported? What's the maximum bitrate WDTV supports for PCM over HDMI?

Great product, iron out a few of these bugs and you've got a killer media player!

tried some .wav files with a DTS stream and using the optical out my receiver decoded them just fine.

not sure...have not tried yet...though i think i have some files.

again...live does not play the 6ch FLACS, but does play 2ch...at least mine would not play them.

Try to put the file under a MKV container and see if it starts to handle the DTS audio better using the MKVToolnix.

Thanks. This way I managed to play my .DTS files... But muxing everything isn't that much fun, as it should be possible to play .DTS out of the box... Still, multichannel FLACs don't work for me either.
