I ripped the DVD disc from The Beatles Love album, and saved the Dolby 5.1 part of the album as .ac3 files, which play fine. I also saved the DTS part of the album as 5.1 .dts files. I cannot remember what I used to do it, but I think it was DVD-Audio Splitter or Extractor or something like that.
Anyhow, the .dts files will not play. The specs for the WD TV Live (and the manual) say that it is supposed to play. So the question is why are they not working. They play on my computer , so they are not corrupt. Any help would be great (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

If I'm not mistaken, the WD TV Live and the WD TV (2nd Gen.) only support upto 2-channel DTS audio. For anything more than 2-channels you might need to passthrough to a receiver that supports decoding DTS.

Everything is getting passed through to my receiver over HDMI. The audio is set to digital on the TV Live. Can the TV Live only handle DTS within a video file, or is it supposed to be able to handle .dts audio files too?

Not sure. Check the product specs and manual here, or else check with WD Support and let us know too.

I am having a similar problem, My WDTV Live is connected to my Panny Home theater through optical which has built in decoder for all DTS, but all my files with DTS are not playing any sound. If i convert them to AC3 than they show up on the reciever as Dolby Digital and play fine. But leaving them untouched as DTS then no go. The LIVE recognizes the audio as DTS but its not passing through to the reciver? I can set the LIVE to stereo and ot plays but obviously not in DTS.
I have called WD tech support and the level 1 guy was an idiot and forwarded me to Level 2, was on hold for a bit, then the level 1 guy came back and said level 2 was not available and would call me in an hour. Never heard back this was last night. Upgraded the firmware to .11 but same problem. Was thinking of trying B-rad's firmware. Any advice?? |

you need to hook up the audio through the digital optical out into the receiver and change the wdtv settings to digital audio out. I've been downloading everything I can get my hands on as far as 5.1 audio goes. pretty much everything that's encoded in .wav plays beautifully but anything else - .vob, .iso, etc. is a gamble. only about 1/2 play and the rest get an error like "file type not supported". I can't get any 5.1 .flac files to play but I read somewhere here that 5.1 flac isn't supported. don't be afraid to reset the wdtv - I've had to many times and it always does the trick. there are a ton of 5.1 dts .wav torrents out there...download what you can and try em out...the ones that work sound awesome.
