YOUTUBE login crashes after inputting password. Reboots system. YOUTUBE still works just can't login. Thanks to vvv for posting the work around - unfortunately it didn't work for me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I set up a new google account and combined with my youtube account. Using the google account to login on the WDTV now didn't force a reboot anymore but my favorites and playlists were empty. I also found it veery annoing to enter text with the remote control so I finally solved this problem - and returned the WDTV to the dealer (and will replace with an Acer Aspire Revo or so). Good luck, Diwada |

Same as everyone else, the wdtv live crashes & reboots upon youtube account login, almost every time.
However i did manage to get it to work 2 or 3 times with odd ways of logging in. First I logged into my account with just "my name" and then typed the wrong 8 character password. Then I was able to cycle through playlist and favorites and empty thumbnail videos. So oddly with a wrong password it makes you think you are logged in except you don't see any videos just all blank--I did this to get into the Playlist/favorites interface first. Then I went back and logged in as "my name@gmail.com" with my correct password--a couple times it didn't crash, but a majority of times it crashes. Then I went back and logged in with only "my name" with the correct password--and I was able to get into my favorites and playlist videos!! But it only worked 2 or 3 times...maybe it was luck or the system is so buggy that it sometimes lets you login and most of the time it doesn't. When I viewed my favorites it showed thumbnail for each video I had. But after playing 3 or 4 videos, when I pressed the back button, it eventually crashed. Also, the playlists were not really working like they should; they just worked "partially", by only showing the videos which the playlists consisted of, but the videos were all mixed up. So the playlists function was essentially buggy. But the steps I tried which allowed it to work 2 or 3 times did not work consistently when I repeated login the same way. So it is still very buggy and temporamental when it finally worksl..It crashes 98% of the time now, so I decided to give up until a true fix comes out. While I'm waiting for a fix, I'm just going to rely on a dedicated HTPC for youtube videos. |

I'm having the same issue. I enter my username and then enter my password. I'm taken to a screen that shows a bunch of blank black boxes (assuming 'my videos') - then a few seconds later the WDTV Live reboots. I tried a few times, same results.
FW: 1.01.11 On a positive note - Pandora works great on here so far. |

FW: 1.01.11
I just found the solution to this problem, and it now works as advertised! I see playlists and favorites perfectly functional!! Taken from another wdtv forum: credits go to user Hudja for stating a solution: QUOTE just created new youtube (not gmail) account, deleted old accounts from WD, restarted it... and logged in successfully, now I can see my favorites! I tried both: remember log/pass and don't, both worked. I also logged out from youtube on my PC, before logging in with WD. So make sure you are not creating a youtube account from a gmail account. You will be working through google accounts when registering for a youtube account but you should provide another email address (that is not gmail). I Created a youtube account with my yahoomail account as my email address instead of my gmail. And you will need a cell phone to recieve the mobile phone activation code. The only negative about youtube videos, is that it doesn't load some "HD" large sized files quickly enough to play smoothly on a cable LAN connection. Therefore you will find some videos take too long to load up. But it works great for less demanding files which use less bandwidth. |

Meh, this whole 'feature' seems to be messed up. Some people have reported success with a new gmail linked account, some with yahoo. Whatever works, I guess. WD really needs to address this issue once and for all with a proper firmware update.

just wanted to bump/update this.
the problem still exists in firmware 1.01.17 Sometimes it will say "No content available." then a few seconds later will crash. Have tried every combo of logging in from my name@gmail.com, to just name, to just my youtube account and still nothing. |

I have this problem with the 1.01.17 firmware as well.
It will be great if they can fix this. I am a new owner so I was wondering what the longer term owners experience was with WD fixing these kind of things. |

The constant reboot from Youtube logins was my return point. I had enough and decided to return it to the Blue and Yellow store and got a different media box.
The new unit logged into Youtube but didn't stream in HD like the WDTV does. So...I'm thinking...return this current unit, buy a different WDTV live with old (original firmware) to bypass the Youtube login problem, then wait for a proper firmware update. I'll stay signed onto this forum in the meantime if something changes. I really did love the WDTV live and beats the hell out of my current box but the Youtube thing REALLY killed it for me. |

Seems WD has known about this since last December, but no word from them on when, or if, there will be a fix.
I've bailed on using the YouTube direct access from the WD Live box, and loaded PlayOn media server on my desktop. Now I can access my YouTube, Hulu, and much much more via the WD Live connection to the PlayOn Media Server on the network. TX |

If you have problems with accessing Youtube use Super VPN. I use their services and so far the experience has been great! With private VPN account you can bypass your firewall, visit all blocked web sites, watch TV online, listen radio, access Flickr, YouTube, use Skype if it is blocked in your region and more.
